Onelink Communications in Puerto Rico

Onelink Communications in Puerto Rico

I use Onelink Communications for my TV and internet needs. Today it seems their service has had some hiccups. At first I thought it was my wireless router. I have a crazy wireless setup with a wireless bridge that can some time cause some problems and I just have to reboot my network equipment which fixes everything. So I tried rebooting which didn’t work. Now I am looking at my cable modem cycle trying to find a connection. This has been an issue before, but hasn’t been an issue for a while. I guess it’s that time of year though.

All and all Onelink’s service is pretty good once you get past the awful customer service and get every thing setup like you like it. For the English speakers out there, they do have an English option when you call which is nice.

Sometime late last year they did send out a letter saying they were going to impose a 8 GB cap on the bandwidth. If it was surpassed, they would charge some ridiculous fee. I have yet to see this on my bill. I am pretty sure that I have gone past the limit. I am a pretty heavy downloader.

  • Updated an article

    Just an update…

I updated “Driving in Puerto Rico” which was an article that didn’t contain much content.  It was getting some hits from Google…  So it has now been updated with all the links on why driving is so terrible in PR.

    Escambron Beach

This past weekend I spent a day at Playa Escambron which is a very nice beach very close to Old San Juan.  Escambron in my opinion is one of the best beaches in San Juan metro area.

It has a back drop of some nice big waves hitting natural rock that surrounds a section of the beach in a big semi circle.  Within the boundries of the natural rock is some fairly nice coral that can be seen through the usually crystal clear water.  The deapest part is about 20 feet (a guestimate).  I love to go here when just hanging out, because strangly I can always see different varieties of fish while snorkleing that I have never seenwhile diving.

This trip I didn’t stay in the water as it was pretty cool.  So I stayed on the beach drinking my beer.  It wasn’t to cold for all of the kids that were playing in the water though.

It was also nice to see a really large group of people cleaning up the beach.  There were even divers pulling out the trash.  If anyone knows where I can find a site that list days for diving cleanups, I would love to know.  I know Scuba Dogs is pretty active in the enviroment, but there site doesn’t look like it’s been updated since ‘05.

  • Puerto Ricos Stimulus Plan aka Recovery Rebates gets Approved

The US Treasury approved the stimulus plan for Puerto Rico yesterday.  It won’t be called stimulus payments; they are going to call the payments “Recovery Rebates”.

I didn’t really pay that much federal tax this year anyway as most Puerto Ricans don’t pay the IRS.  So when they say free money, they mean it!  I would be interested to hear from people in the States who just paid a lot of cash to the IRS on what you think about PR getting this free money.

Can someone also explain to me how the government plans to help the economy by temporarily flooding the consumer market with a little cash…

  • April 2008 Hurricane Forecast Released

Aprils hurricane forecast was recently released a few days ago for the Atlantic.  They basically raised the number of storms they were previously expecting.  Of course this means a greater chance for Puerto Rico having a hurricane.  The question is..  What do you think?  Will have some storms this year or will everything go by like they did last year?

  • Water in Puerto Rico

    Water in Puerto Rico

Today I was urged to “hurry and take a shower!”  This happens when the water pressure starts to fall.  This isn’t all that common of an occurrence in Puerto Rico, but it happens enough that I know I need to do the three S’s or I won’t be able to later on.  It is always a mystery on why the water decides to go.  Sometimes outages are planned.  One time recently, they decided that they would shut down all of San Juan’s water to do an upgrade.  Most outages are not planned though and today will be one of those days.  The water pressure goes to nothing in about a two hour time span for unknown reasons.

The only hot water in my house is what comes out of the shower (there is no hot water heater).  It has an antiquated version of what we would call today “Instant Hot Water”.  The whole setup is a little strange.  There is no hot and cold controls in the shower.  You control the heat by how much water is let out.  The more water that comes through the system the less of a chance the water has of being warmed.  So if you want a warm shower, you need to turn it all the way on.  A hot shower you need to barely turn it on.  There is a problem though, if there is not enough pressure, the heater won’t turn on.

So today as my shower came out in a slow stream of cold water…  At least I was able to take one!
