Puerto Rico viewed from a gringo’s perspective
17 Mar
I doubt that there is a city any where in the world that has over 500,000 people and doesn’t have traffic lights with sensors in them. I know there are all sorts of sensors for these things such as weight sensors, cameras, I have even seen infrared sensors for buses and emergency vehicles. Now I could be wrong… But, I do believe no traffic light in San Juan or even Puerto Rico has any sort of sensor.
All of the lights here seem to be on some sort of timer. I don’t really know how they figure out the timers because no light is synced with the other traffic lights. And no light seems to be timed to correctly keep the flow of traffic running smoothly. During rush hour it is common to see cops at the busy intersections either manually switching the lights or directing the flow of traffic with their hands an d whistles. When I see this I wonder how much money is being wasted on the cop directing traffic when a sensor could have been installed for much less money.

They do have sensors, well, some of them and mostly in areas with heavy traffic. There are several square concrete patches underneath the light, that’s the sensor…
…then again, they could be malfunctioning…
I’ve seen some intersections with sensors, but it’s usually none of the ones that need it.
Ok, well maybe ya’ll got me… but it has to be like Dark Soul said - “malfunctioning” and Robert has a good point to -That seems like what the gov would do.
Seriously, I mean… there are sensors on corner of PR22 and Ave. De Diego. I’ve never once seen that intersection get bad enough to where they are needed
Maybe those intersections don’t get bad enough because of the sensors? But you’re right, those sensors should be on ALL lights not just handpicked ones.
Dark: Sensors make a world of difference. You will see when you move to Plano… A world of difference
Are you kidding me?
Great, a cop that is actually working instead of cruising around looking pretty.
My brother-in-law got into an accident and local cops here, in Hatillo, didn’t even respond to his phone calls. Cops in the next municipality (Camuy) actually took the call and came out. LOL!
